Noticing the Details
Southern Illinois artist Shannon S. Green's art is influenced by her many experiences, both as an artist and in various roles, including as an early childhood educator, advocate, and systems consultant. Throughout her career, she has created art within her community—alongside young children and families. With a wide-ranging creative practice, she has worked in acrylics, fiber, collage, ink, watercolor, and even puppetry.
Having lived in Southern Illinois for more than 25 years, she has nurtured a deep appreciation for the natural world and the beauty of the region. She began painting flowers while practicing observational drawing techniques and studying the lines, shapes, and colors of nature, while working with children as an early childhood educator.
Green’s artwork is a way for her to share how she experiences the world—hoping to inspire others to approach their surroundings with a childlike sense of love, curiosity, and creativity—one where small details of the natural world come forward and ask to be noticed.
