Mural Projects & Public Art

The Artspace Southern Illinois Mural and Public Art Project is a regional public art program that supports the creation of large-scale murals and installation of public art as a way to share local stories, celebrate community, and bring art into everyday spaces. Through partnerships with artists, organizations, and cities, the projects have placed public art in various communities in Southern Illinois—with much more to come.

This is another way we support local artists by providing opportunities for them to share their creativity in public spaces. And, many projects offer funding for the artist‘s work.

One of our collaborations is “Welcome, Carbondale!”, a program that creates murals to greet visitors and locals alike, sharing the spirit of the city of Carbondale, IL. We are proud to partner with the City of Carbondale, Southern Illinois University Carbondale, local businesses, and private donors to fund murals throughout the city, creating interesting places for everyone to enjoy.

Creatives, watch for submission opportunities to have your work featured on our Events Calendar and join our email list
