All Southern High School Theater Project

Supporting the Next Generation of Theater Artists—ASHSTP™

For 30 years, the All Southern High School Theater Project (ASHSTP™) has welcomed high school students from across the Southern Illinois region to come together for a hands-on experience in all aspects of musical theatre. Through workshops, rehearsals, and internships, students take part in everything from performing to production. Nearly 200 young artists have participated over the years, and many have gone on to perform in regional and national theaters.

What makes it special?

  • Students learn through direct collaboration with professionals in music, choreography, and theatre direction to build skills and confidence

  • Interns receive real-world experience in stage design, technical production, and backstage operations as part of the Summer Youth Employment in the Arts Program

  • Generous backing from the Illinois Arts Council, the City of Carbondale, the Neil and Mary Ellen Dillard Scholarship Fund, and contributors of the Rising Star Fund

  • Significant In-kind support from John A. Logan College and Southern Illinois University

A Starting Point for Young Artists

This is more than a summer program—it’s a place that sets young artists in motion, where they can build confidence, grow creatively, develop professional skills, and connect with a community of peers and mentors. Whether they’re on stage or behind the scenes, they leave with new skills, experiences, and lasting memories.

Help us continue giving young people new ways to explore their creativity
