Artspace 304 Rebrands as Artspace Southern Illinois to Reflect Regional Expansion and Community Vision

Carbondale, IL — Artspace 304 is proud to announce its rebranding as Artspace Southern Illinois, a name that reflects the organization’s growing regional impact and its commitment to serving communities across Southern Illinois through the arts.

This transformation marks a significant milestone in the organization's evolution, encompassing the expansion into two distinct sites featuring multiple galleries, an expanded retail space, a makerspace, and a center for community conversations. The new identity embraces Artspace’s mission to foster creativity, accessibility, and dialogue through inclusive programming and artist support.

“Artspace Southern Illinois represents a bold step forward in our commitment to regional arts leadership,” said Dr. Kirk Overstreet, newly appointed Board President. “This rebranding honors our legacy while embracing a future where artists, educators, and community members come together to shape a vibrant cultural landscape.”

The organization’s expanded footprint will allow for deeper engagement with youth, artists, creatives, and educators, while continuing to host exhibitions, workshops, and public programs that reflect the diversity and creativity of Southern Illinois.

“This is more than a name change—it’s a reflection of our growth and our vision,” said Chuck Benya, CEO and Executive Director. “Artspace Southern Illinois will be a hub for cultural arts innovation, economic development, and community connection. We’re excited to welcome everyone into this next chapter.”

Artspace Southern Illinois will continue to offer free and pay-what-you-can programming, artist-led classes, and collaborative initiatives with schools and nonprofits throughout the region. The organization invites the public to celebrate this new chapter at its upcoming Open House at its newest site Artspace Southern Illinois—On the Strip, on December 15, where guests can explore the new spaces located at 607 S. Illinois Ave.
